Police Officer Sentenced to 3 Yrs in Jail For Aiding Crime

Moving on with the news; Senior Resident Magistrate court in Mchinji yesterday sentenced a police officer, Joseph Hebo, to three years imprisonment for aiding two prisoners to escape from police cell.

In August 2020, the convict helped Grevazio Pota and Chimwemwe Manda, who were answering criminal charges, escape from a cell at Mchinji Police Station after he had demanded 100 hundred thousand kwacha from them.

He supplied the criminals with breaking equipment which they managed to damage cell security bars and escaped before they got arrested in Dedza district.

In a related development; A Senior Resident Magistrate's Court in Mangochi yesterday convicted and sentenced police Detective Sub Inspector Augustine Julio, to 6 years imprisonment for wounding a 13-year-old boy while in police custody.

Julio, 40, who was working at Chiponde police unit was arrested in August last year after reports that he hacked the boy with a panga knife during interrogation.
