RBM Maintains Policy Rate

The Central Bank, Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has maintained the policy rate at 12 percent.

In a statement issued Thursday after a two-day long meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), RBM Governor Wilson Banda said the decision was deemed necessary though inflation pressures are mounting stating that the sources are considered transitory and likely to dissipate after the lean period.

The statement further projects that inflation will jump from 8.9 percent that was initially projected to 10.4 percent.
