Scarcity of Bactrim Worries People Living With HIV/AIDS
People living with HIV and AIDS who are on antiretroviral therapy are worried about the shortage of Bactrim in public hospitals, a situation they fear would expose them to opportunistic infections.
For example, Chairman of Kasungu People Living with HIV/AIDS, Billy Hannock Msokera says they are only accessing ARVs without Bactrim whose purpose is to reduce opportunistic infections in their bodies.
Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda says the shortage has come because the drug was also used to treat Covid 19 related infections apart from the management of HIV/AIDS.
She says government was doing everything to get the drugs into the country in the quickest possible time.
