Some People Affected By Cyclone Ana Yet To Receive Help

Over 100 Cyclone Ana survivors from two camps in Phalombe are yet to receive help two weeks after the devastating storm hit the district.

Chairperson for Chiwalo Area Civil Protection Committee Fanny Nkhalamba has told Zodiak that survivors seeking refuge at Mikundi and Mwalawamphuno camps are starving as they lost everything.

Phalombe District Council Spokesperson, Mathews Mkandawire says the two camps were discovered after the district preliminary assessment.

In a related development, 71 households that were affected by heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds last week in the area of Traditional Authority Kanyenda in Nkhotakota district have called for humanitarian support.

A representative of the victims, Phillip Ngoma, says most of them, lack food items and kitchen utensils as they lost house property during the disaster.

District Disaster Management Officer, Romatchinga Nkhata, says a report on the incident, has since been submitted to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs head office, for government support.
