CMD Applauds Deregistration Of Over 50 Political Parties

Executive Director for the Center for Multiparty Democracy, Kizito Tenthani, says the deregistration of over 50 political parties by the registrar of political parties has no effect on the growth of democracy in Malawi.

Tenthani told us yesterday that the majority of the deregistered parties only existed on paper, a view shared by political analyst, Joseph Chunga who argues non-functional political parties never signify growth or maturity of democracy.

The remarks follow the certification of 13 political parties by the registrar of political parties out of over 60 earlier registered in Malawi.
