Speaking at the launch of Peaceful Co-Existence and Social Cohesion Campaign Wednesday in Lilongwe, NICE Executive Director, Ollen Mwalubunju, says the campaign will run up until court verdict and that they have already started capacity building of community building structures across the country.

The peace campaign follows series of violence that have ensued following  disagreements as some quarters have been disputing results of the May 21 polls that saw Malawi Electoral Commission declared Peter Mutharika winner.

The opposition Malawi Congress Party and UTM have gone to court questioning management of the election and seeking nullification of the election results. The constitutional court hearing the case is expected to give its ruling in January.

“We are planning to bring together political party leaders from both opposition and ruling. We want them to understand about peace and let them translate that peace to their supporters.

“It is clear that in every court case, there is a winner and a loser, so we want either side to get prepared for court outcome so that peace is sustained,” said Mwalubunju.

NICE Trust is expected to start the exercise in 10 districts before covering the whole country.
