Director for the department Brighton Kumchedwa said, the animal translocation has been necessitated by increase of elephant population in Liwonde National Park which has exceeded its capacity, causing destruction of the habitat and deaths of people around the park.
African Parks and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) have jointly invested about 1.5 billion kwacha for the translocation exercise with the hope of boosting tourism attraction and forex to Malawi.
