Impending Truckers’ Strike, Govt Shivering

Government plans to meet representatives of professional truck drivers and the association for truck owners over their differences on proposed salary minimum for the drivers.

This follows a recent announcement by the drivers’ body that will stage a fresh strike beginning December 2 after the truck owners association rejected the earlier salary hike.

The last time the drivers went on strike, operations suffered including essential public services.

Spokesperson for the ministry of transport, James Chakwera, hopes the meeting will permanently resolve the differences.
