Vacant AG Post Choking Audit Transactions, Govt Concedes

The government has conceded that delays to fill the vacant position of Auditor General has resulted in slow operations of audit transactions in its departments and agencies.

The position has been vacant for four years.

Secretary to the Treasury MacDonald Mafuta Mwale has told us that three times, government has failed to fill the post due to the strict National Audit Act, which he feels has discouraged many to take up the position.

Governance expert, Victor Chipofya is asking government to swiftly fill the position as it is crucial in enhancing transparency and accountability in government ministries and agencies.
