Govt Challenges Chiefs to Champion Cleanup Campaigns

Government has challenged chiefs to champion cleanup campaigns as a way of controlling the Cholera outbreak in the country.

Minister of Local government, Blessings Chinsinga spoke yesterday when he elevated Traditional authorities Mwase and Chisemphere of Kasungu on Tuesday.

Mr. Chinsinga says the low involvement of chiefs in the national exercise is to blame for slowing the adoption of the campaign at the grassroots.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of health says there is a need to intensify awareness on behavior change toward immunization in the country for Malawi to maintain a positive status on containing emerging health problems that require vaccines.

Minister responsible Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda said in Lilongwe yesterday that although Malawi has been doing well on routine immunization, more still needs to be done on public acceptance of immunization among adults.

She was speaking at the commissioning of a 1.3-billion-kwacha complex for Expanded Program on Immunization.
