December Youth Indabas Crucial for DPP, MCP

Political and youth activists have urged the Democratic Progress Party (DPP) and opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to their party's youth conferences next month as a platform for building youths to be responsible citizens and not agents of violence.

The party youth conferences are coming when there is political instability in the country.

While welcoming the idea, the activists Charles Kajoloweka and George Phiri said there is need for the two political parties to use such events for peace building.

“With current political impasse, the two political parties should utilize such events by preaching a message of peace to the youths,” said Kajoloweka.

He said this will also be a chance for the youths to iron out issues concerning policies and development agendas set by the two political entities.

On his part, political analyst George Phiri said Malawi needs youths that are knowledgeable and productive to achieve national development.

“This is their time to show political party leaders what they are capable of contributing to national development and not violence,” Phiri said.

Meanwhile, MCP Director of Youth, Richard Chimwendo Banda while confirming the meeting says their meeting has nothing to do with the current political impasse.

His counterpart, DPP National Youth Director, Dyton Mussa he knew of no such meeting.

However, a post on DPP Facebook Page says the party will hold the Blue League National Conference at Livingstonia Beach in Salima.
