Assaulted Lilongwe Vendor Dead

On Monday, irate vendors from the Lilongwe Central Business District Flea Market went to the streets in a sweeping exercise attempt, forcing out street vendors in the area.
This was the second time the vendors went to the streets, following a similar exercise last week Wednesday.

The vendors claimed their counterparts have been clouding them out.

The sweeping exercise did not end well as the street vendors retaliated which saw the injury of three vendors who have been on medication.

Sadly, one of the assault victims, Waelo Nehiya aged 36 has passed on at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.

Lilongwe police spokesperson Joseph Kachikho has confirmed Naelo Nehiya 36, has passed on at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

“He was assaulted by fellow vendors on Monday 25 November and his relatives informed us of his demise. We have assisted them with our vehicle to pick their relatives who were at the hospital to the deceased home,” Kachikho said.

Nehiya hailed from Ngumba Village T/A Mkalo in Chiradzulu.
