Alfandika Back in ConCourt Witness Box

In the constitutional court in Lilongwe this morning, Malawi Electoral Commission CEO, Sam Alfandika, continues to testify in the presidential election case.

Court proceedings have begun this morning with hearing on fresh applications on how some proceeds should go.

After lawyers for UTM president Saulosi Chilima finished cross-examining Alfandika last week, it is now the turn of the lawyers for MCP president Lazarus Chakwera.

Alfandika is the first of three witnesses that the MEC is parading to dispute claims that the May 2019 presidential election was mismanaged as to deserve a court order for a re-run.

Malawi Electoral Commission Chief Elections Officer, Sam Alfandika, confessed in the constitutional court that minutes of meetings held by the commission about the disputed elections have not been brought to court because he did not see the need.

Alfandika made the confession when Modecai Msisha, lawyer for MCP president Lazarus Chakwera cross-examined him Friday in relation to management of the 2019 elections.

The MEC CEO was in his second day of cross-examination after going through the same process with lawyers for UTM president Saulos Chilima in the same court Thursday.
