Malawi Advised: Stop Awaiting Disasters

Outgoing Japanese envoy to Malawi, Kae Yanagasawa, has told authorities in Malawi to stop waiting for natural disasters to strike first but work on preparedness to mitigate impact.

Yanagisawa said this in Lilongwe Tuesday when he presented relief items from outer city of Japan for survivors of March 2019 Cyclone Idai.

She observed that awaiting disaster to strike first makes swift response difficult and attracting relief items is not easy too.

Principal Secretary in the department of disaster Risk management affairs, Wilson Moleni, acknowledged the problem but was quick to claim government is adopting that.
