MDF Dismisses Four for Taking Bribes

Four Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers have been dismissed after an internal disciplinary hearing. They were found guilty of taking bribes at a security check-point near Chirumba Barracks in Karonga. The four were accused of receiving the bribes from a truck driver driving from Mzuzu towards Karonga early morning yesterday.

Two of the four soldiers will do time in a military prison; one for 10 days and the other 14 days before going back home.

MDF spokesperson, Major Emmanuel Mlelemba, says details of what has transpired will be made public soon through a press statement.

This is coming hot-on-the-heels of a public outcry that some soldiers manning this check-pot demand and take bribes from traders to pass.
