CDEDI Petitions Parliament

The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) yesterday presented a petition to parliament pushing for the tabling of an emergency maize bill.

The bill according to CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa, will address the country's food situation that has seen a rise in Maize prices with price for 50kg bag hitting around MK35 000.

The petition presented to chairperson for Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture Sameer Suleman among others is requesting the National Food Reserve Agency to release maize to ADMARC depots in order for Malawians to easily access the commodity.
