Last Witness Testifies in Matemba’s Case
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has finished parading witnesses in the case against its former director general Reyneck Matemba.
The 15th and last witness appeared in the Lilongwe registry of the Financial Crimes Court yesterday.
Matemba, who went on to serve as Solicitor General after leaving the ACB, is answering two counts bordering on failure to declare interest by public officer and corruption.
The charges relate to those involving businessman Zuneth Sattar who is suspected of offering kickbacks to secure a deal to supply 350,000 food ration packs worth U.S. $7,875,000 to the Malawi Police Service.
The ACB arrested Matemba in 2022 for allegedly taking a bribe in relation to the Sattar contract. He was arrested alongside John Suzi-Banda, the former chairperson of the Directorate of Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority.
It says investigations established that Matemba received $10,000 as an advantage for vetting the process of the food rations contract.
He denies the charges.
