2009 Quake-Struck Hospital in Dire Straits

In 2009, an earthquake struck a community in Karonga district and one of the structures hit was a health centre called Kasoba. It remains in dire straits.

Twenty years down the line, the facility, which serves a population of about 28, 000 people, is on the verge of collapse.

The scenario has put at risk the lives of health workers and patients at risk.

Director of Health and Social Services for Karonga, David Sibale, feels the remedy is to rehabilitate the structure.

For the Medical Council of Malawi, this facility has just to be closed.
