Parties Pledge to Abide by ConCourt Ruling

Political parties involved in the ongoing elections have promised to abide by the court’s request to accept any ruling by the constitutional court.

Judge Healey Potani said on the final day of oral submissions at the constitutional court in Lilongwe that political parties should accept any ruling that will come from the court.

Malawi Congress Party President, Lazarus Chakwera and his UTM counterpart, Saulos Chilima are seeking nullification of May 21 presidential election results that went in favor of Democratic Progressive Party President, Peter Mutharika who is first respondent in the case.

Meanwhile, National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust, which is on a campaign to help Malawians accept the outcome of the elections case is encouraging leadership of political parties in the country to continue engaging their followers from the grass-root.

NICE Executive Director Ollen Mwalununju says despite the failed mediation by Public Affairs Committee (PAC), they are hoping that Malawians will remain calm and accept court outcome.
