Hotel Masongola Fire ‘Suspicious’
There are suspicions of foul play in the fire that gutted Hotel Masongola, one historical monument in Zomba city.
The fire consumed the entire hotel domes on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Director of Museums and Monuments, Dr. Elizabeth Gomani Chindebvu, says her office is conducting an independent investigations into what caused the fire.
She says there are suspicions of ‘foul play’.
However, preliminary findings into what may have caused the fire point to ‘spontaneous combustion’ from flammable items that were, reportedly, piled in one of room.
Zomba city council acting principal fire officer Lodius Sendaluzi says it is the fire from that room that fast spread to other rooms damaging millions worth property.
