MCP Invades Chikwawa
The Malawi Congress Party says 117 members of the Democratic Progressive Party, DPP, have jumped ship in Chikwawa including some leaders on grounds that the ruling party has failed to address the hunger situation and sorting out intra-party leadership problems at grassroots level.
The, hitherto, DPP members led by Joseph Tembo, who was DPP governor for Chikwawa Central constituency told Zodiak Online after being welcomed by MCP officials at Nchalo on Saturday afternoon, that they decided to join MCP because they believe it offers hope for the country.
Tembo complained of alleged DPP failure to address leadership wrangles which have reportedly been rocking constituency committees mainly in Chikwawa Central for sometime now.
MCP Campaign Director, Moses Kunkuyu, thinks the defection is a sign that people are tired of corruption, nepotism, lack of rule of law and essential social services to the people which he apportioned to the DPP administration.
Kunkuyu added that MCP is the only party that could provide servant leadership, promoting national unity and adhering to rule of law and ensuring that the majority citizens have improved livelihoods.
When contacted, DPP spokesperson Nicholas Dausi asked for more time to find out on the ground as to what exactly has happened.
