The Special Cabinet Committee on corona virus headed by health minister Jappie Mhango has been disbanded and in its place, President Peter Mutharika has set up a presidential taskforce on the pandemic.

The Malawi Law Society says the Special Cabinet Committee on Coronavirus has no constitutional mandate to manage the disaster as the constitution entrusts the responsibility with the ministry of disaster preparedness and relief which has the structures in place for implementation.

Malawi is intensifying border security patrols and mounting of road blocks in-country in strategic points to mitigate the spread of corona virus and Covid-19.
