Friends of Nkhatabay, Nkhotakota Chapter for Mudawuku wa Atonga (MWATO) on Friday visited St.Maria Goretti School for Visually Impaired Children in Nkhatabay district.

Women and children on Likoma Island are expected to see an improved health service delivery at the islands St. Peters Hospital courtesy of a donation of various machines for the maternity and labour wards at the facility by the Nation Publications Limited (NPL) through its health resource mobilization campaign, Mothers Fun Run (MFR).

Likoma and Chizumulu Islanders have rejected a request by their Member of Parliament to reopen the District Health Offices (DHO) which they sealed during the last month's demonstrations pushing government to transfer six officers including the DHO.

Over 700 vulnerable people in Likoma Island will now be able to access face masks at a subsidized price of about 100 kwacha each, courtesy of the Member of Parliament for the Island Christopher Ashemes Songwe.

Member of Parliament for Likoma and Chizumulu Islands Christopher Ashemes Songwe has faulted the council secretariat's failure to meet some procurement and implementation standards, for the delays in the completion of several development projects on the Islands.

Misconceptions surrounding COVID-19 have forced National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Public Trust to roll out door to door awareness campaigns on Likoma and Chizumulu Islands aimed at changing the mindset among the islanders on the reality of the pandemic.

Ex- Malawi Defense Force(MDF) soldiers who went for United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in Rwanda during the 1995 Genocide has appealed for Malawi Government to consider their welfare after 26 years without support.

Likoma and Chizumulu Islanders have implored government to consider putting in place measures that will ensure MV Ilala and other boats sailing between the islands and other districts ferry people in line with COVID19 preventive measures.

On Likoma Island this morning, people took to the street in demonstrations against management of the district health office.

A recent report by the Public Health Institute of Malawi (PHIM) on Coronavirus puts Likoma Island as the only district in Malawi which has not recorded any case since the declaration of COVID19 a national disaster on March 20, 2020.
