African Armyworms Hit Neno

Agriculture authorities in Neno district say two villages of Kanono and Tchenga have been affected by an African Armyworm outbreak that has so far affected 33 hectors of rain fed maize fields.

The Ministry of Health through the Neno District health Office and Partners in Health (PIH) has called on people to change their lifestyles.

The Department of Disaster Management Affairs Commissioner Charles Kalemba has commended Partners in Health for its support towards the people affected by various disasters in the country.

DoDMA Responds to Neno Disaster

The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) has responded to the Neno disaster that has so far left 129 families without food and shelter.

The Neno district council with logistical support from Save the Children-Italy through Beyond Our Hearts Foundation on Monday conducted an assessment to establish the extent of damage caused by strong winds coupled with heavy rains that fell over the weekend.

In Neno, strong winds that blew last night have damaged property and several houses and reportedly injured a two-year old baby who was sleeping in one of the houses.

In a bid to keep the youths of Ntcheu South busy and away from harmful practices, a renowned engineer Joel Ching'ani organised a football and netball tournament to a tune of K4.8 million.

Neno District Hospital authorities say they have counselled 1, 643 people who had mental health issues this year with 75 percent of them back to their productive work.

Neno district Forestry Office has with immediate effect banned production and sell of uncertified charcoal, claiming the district has lost 24,000 hectors of forest between 2021 and 2022.

The Neno District Council Social Cash Transfer Officer Zindawa Kachingwe says there is a need to vigorously engage the Area Executive Committee which is a group of technocrats in all phases of development implementation.
