Non-Governmental Organization - Gender Coordination Network - NGO - GCN has hailed the formation of women forums saying they are crucial in the fight against gender-based violence perpetrated against women and girls in the country.

When 32-year old Peter Ngwira of Vulakayini Ngwenya Village in the area of Inkosi Mmbelwa finished his secondary school education at Edingeni community day secondary school he found life tough going.

 

Some jobs are seen as being only for men. Take bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, cell phone repairing, and of course dish installation.

The UN Resident Coordinator says she is impressed with work being done by non-state actors under the spotlight initiative to rid the country of gender-based violence which has a negative bearing on development.

In a country where illiteracy levels are still on the higher side, World Vision Malawi is striving to make a difference through an output called 'Motivating learners participation in literacy' through literacy fairs like debates and spelling bee competition among others.

A local non governmental organization Shine on Malawi has launched a school feeding program in Mzalangwe educational zone in Mzimba to ensure an improved nutritional status among learners.

Mentors and Mentees for Action Aid Malawi under its 'Toto Nkhanza' Spotlight initiative project have petitioned Inkosi Mzukuzuku in Mzimba district for failure to enforce bylaws meant to curb gender based violence among girls and young women in his area.

The Mzimba Agriculture office together with Mzuzu ADD communications department and the pesticides control board have embarked on an  awareness campaign to sensitize farmers ,sellers and consumers on the use of tomatoes applied with chemicals alleged to be harmful.

While some farmers across the country are grappling with the problem of markets for there produce, Inna's  View Farms in Mzimba is singing a different song.
