The Second Grade Magistrate’s Court in Mangochi has convicted and sentenced a 38-year-old man to one and half years imprisonment with hard labor for stealing goods worth over K5 million.

Police in Mangochi have arrested three men and recovered a motor vehicle suspected to have been stolen.

One person has died while six others have sustained seriously injuries after a motor vehicle they were travelling in overturned in Mangochi on Thursday.

Defilement cases in Mangochi district are showing no signs of averting as the district has already registered 11 cases this year alone, up from 9 in the same period last year, according to police.

Thirty-two people have been admitted to Mangochi District Hospital for suspected food poisoning.
