10 Nabbed in Karonga for Looting

Police in  Karonga have arrested ten people in connection to the looting of two shops belonging to Chipiku Stores last night.

This comes barely hours after the law enforcers engaged in a scuffle with business operators who were protesting over delays by the Malawi Revenue Authority to remove some of the roadblocks mounted on the M1 road  from Chilumba-Songwe boarder post.

Karonga Police station Publicist Sub Inspector Enock Livasoni has told Zodiak online that the suspects will appear in court to answer charges of breaking into a building and theft.

"Yes,I can confirm that as Police we have arrested ten people in connection with the ransacking of the two Chipiku shops," said Livasoni.

Sub Inspector Livason added that the law enforcement organization is still conducting investigations so that all  people who fueled the fracas should be brought to justice.

During the demonstrators several men and women in uniform got injured by irate business operators who bayed for their blood for siding with Mwanjawala villagers and teargassing them.
