The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has endorsed demonstrations by some lawyers aimed at forcing the Executive arm of government to respect the Judiciary following an avalanche of attacks on judges by the president and cabinet ministers.

The recent government crackdown on the HRDC leadership has attracted condemnation from an international human rights body, Amnesty International.

Police in Lilongwe have arrested executive members of the Human Rights Defenders Coalition, vice president Gift Trapence and Reverend MacDonald Sembereka on Sunday.

Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) says Malawi is far from fruition of human rights as political leaders in the country are intolerant and choice of leaders is influencing by political needs.
