The development means Flames’ Head Coach Meck Mwase may have the opportunity to maintain Lovemore Fazili and Bob Mpinganjira as his deputies.

Mwase settled for his two fellow former Malawi internationals after he succeeded Belgian-born tactician Ronny Van Huegneden-RVG mid last year.

Meanwhile, government has advertised the positions of head coaches for the Malawi Under-17 and Under-20 national football teams.

Symon Mbvundula, spokesperson in the ministry of sports, youth and culture, says Meck Mwase and the two successful coaches, to lead the Under-17 and Under-20 respectively, will be on government payroll whereas FAM will take care of their backroom staffs.

According to Mbvundula, both the Under-17 and Under-20 national team coaches will be based in Blantyre and will be reporting to the Technical Director’s office at Chiwembe.

"Government will only be responsible to pay the head coaches for the senior and junior teams, FAM will be responsible for their backroom staff," Mbvundula said.

Mbvundula also says Mwase will sign his long overdue contract, as full-time Flames Head Coach, when he meets some of the ‘important aspects’ contained in the contract.

"Mwase did not sign his contract a fortnight ago because there were some areas that he needed to be enlightened on before putting pen to paper and if everything is in place he will sign the contract," Mbvundula added.

Blue Eagles mentor Deklerk Msakakuona has been in charge of the Under-17 for the past three years whereas Peter Mponda led the Under-20 at this year’s COSAFA Youth Championship in Zambia.
