Crowd-pulling pugilist Israel “Money Machine” Kammwamba, on Sunday underlined his supremacy by defeating Zimbabwean boxer Ndodana Ncube on points in an eight-round non-title bout staged at the M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.

However the victory did not come on a silver platter for Kammwamba who had to survive some scary jabs from the Zimbabwean who looked more composed throughout the fight.

After dominating from the first round, Kammwamba appeared to be targeting a technical knock-out but couldn’t get it as Ncube proved to be an expert in ducking numerous jabs.

The two boxers mesmerized the audience with their skills as they took the game to each other, but it was Kammwamba who emerged victorious with all the judges scoring their points in his (Kammwamba) favor.

First judge scored 77 points against 75 for Ncube, the second judge declared Kammwamba winner with 78 points against 75 and the third judge also gave Kammwamba 78 points against Ncube’s 74.

After the fight, Kammwamba said “It was not an easy game. I had to dig deep to win this one, he (Ncube) is a good boxer and he was fantastic in the ring
.
“It’s nice to start the year with a win especially against a good boxer like Ncube, i have a feeling 2020 is going to be an amazing year for me in as far as boxing is concerned.”

The result, however, did not please some patrons who felt a split draw would have been a fair result while others backed the result saying Kammwamba deserved the win.
