Civo Turn to Raw Talent

Civo Turn to Raw Talent

Civil Service United says they will not make any major signing this season and they will revert to their culture of relying on reserve side and raw talent from lower leagues to tap players for the senior team to complement their long term plans.

During the 90s CIVO was well known for its dependence on youthful players promoted from the reserve side and had a vibrant scouting team which was identifying players from district, regional teams and turn them into stars.

The last time CIVO used this system was during the era of the then coach Patrick Masanjara who brought in players like Righteous Banda and Nelson Kangunje - both currently with Nyasa Big Bullets - and Martin Masoatheka - currently playing for MAFCO FC- just to mention a few who rose through the ranks of the club to become elite players and won the 2010 Presidential Cup after defeating Silver strikers by a goal –scored by Nelson Kangunje – to nil.

Civil Service United general secretary Ronald Chiwaula told Zodiak online that they have agreed us a team to revert to the old system which will fall under their long term plan so that they can dominate the sport in years coming.

“We tried well established players in the past years but things didn’t turn out as we expected. “I think no one can dispute the fact that over the past years CIVO has failed to challenge for honors which was not the case when we entirely preferred to go for raw talent.

“At the moment the idea is to revert back to our culture of nurturing talent and promoting players from the reserve side. Much as it’s obvious that we can’t get the desired results immediately but it’s also obvious that these player will grow to be a force to reckon with and possibly dominate the game in many years,” Chiwaula said.

However, Chiwaula said: “The Franko Ndawa led technical panel has been given the mandate to recommend potential additions from the reserve side and the regional leagues.”

CIVO Service United will compete in all major trophies this season having finished in the top 8 during the 2019 TNM Super League season.

2020 season will have four major trophies, Airtel Top8, FDH Bank Cup, FISD Challenge Cup and the elite league TNM super league.
