The association’s General Secretary, Dave Mpima, says the decision has been arrived at because the Confederation of African Football-CAF has shelved plans to conduct refresher courses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local coaches have not had refresher courses, facilitated by the Confederation of African Football-CAF, for three years now as the continental governing body reviewed its syllabuses.

The development has created a gap amongst them with Super League clubs opting for only those with CAF B licenses as stipulated in club licensing requirements which the Football Association of Malawi is implementing.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic will offer coaches with smaller qualifications, the opportunity of being in the Super League club management system, when this year’s football campaign resumes this August because the continental governing body has given the go-ahead until it conducts fresh courses next year.

Meanwhile, FAM Technical Director, John Kaputa, says CAF has instructed all members associations to create a new syllabus for beginners and it will be called CAF D.

Malawi has fifteen CAF A license coaches, five CAF B coaches, and other 120 coaches possess CAF C coaching license.
