Co-chairperson for the taskforce, Wilfred Chalamila Nkhoma has told Zodiak that with the current state of vaccination rate in the country, football stadium capacities will be reduced as earlier stipulated in the restrictions.

Nkhoma says they will meet soon to review some conditions as requested by football stakeholders, last season.

He says they will take advantage of the games to promote vaccination campaign among soccer fans.

"Judging on what is happening now, it looks like we are going in the right direction. When we meet, we will be able to make some adjustments to the restrictions, “said Nkhoma.

"Football fraternity made some special requests last season, we hope to review those conditions on a case-by-case basis this year, but as of now, the restrictions remain as they were," added Nkhoma.

Meanwhile, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president, Tiya Somba Banda says they will abide by the set laws on gatherings, but hopes the taskforce will ease the restrictions, to allow fans enter football arenas, as they finished last year's campaign.

"We are a law-abiding institution, last season we had most of the it played without the fans. Hopefully this year, the taskforce will do us a favor, looking at the way the pandemic is behaving," Banda said.
