National Bank of Malawi (NBM) says it is in talks with the Basketball Association of Malawi (BASMAL) on future of the M0626 College Basketball Tournament sponsorship which started in 2017 and is ending this year.

The Bank’s Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager, Akosa Hiwa, says there is hope for the better with sponsorship’s future.

“Our agreement with BASMAL is coming to an end this year. We are already negotiating to find out how best to proceed but we are very hopeful for the future and we are very happy for the partnership that we have had,” she said.

She said this on Thursday in Blantyre after announcing the Pa Mo All Stars Basketball Bonanza slated for this Saturday in Blantyre ahead of the Pa Mo College Basketball Tournament.

“As we term it, Pa Mo Basketball Bonanza was motivated by a desire to create excitement and also bring in different basketball players within the nation to celebrate the game.

“We also just want to make it a fun day for families, sportsmen and sports enthusiasts so that we can kick off the tournament on a memorable note,” she said.

BASMAL Vice President, Banthari Banda, says relationship with the Bank has yielded good fruits in the game over the years.

“These college teams were shy to ply in senior leagues. Now that they gained experience from the college basketball, they managed to form teams and join the elite leagues,” he said.

Banda has promised fireworks at the Saturday’s Bonanza.
