Football Association of Malawi-FAM says is now set to roll out FIFA-FAM leagues across the country following approval of funding by the world football governing body.

FAM’s Technical Director, John Kaputa, disclosed this today.

He said FIFA will fund the Under-16 leagues for four years with the edition for 2019-2020 coming soon after age verification expected to begin this weekend.

“It will take us just a couple of days. That means the games will begin immediately after the exercise. We expect each team to play at least a match before the end of the year,” Kaputa said.

Meanwhile FAM is also expected introduce under-14 leagues under the same initiative and will roll out concurrently with the under 16 leagues.

“These teams have been preparing for almost the whole year so what we’ve done is to change the league to under16 from the initial under15.

“That has helped us secure funding from FIFA for the under 14 leagues which will be played in all the districts concurrently with under 16 leagues,” Kaputa said noting this will help with proper transition.

FIFA approved funding of about 190 thousand US dollars last month for the two projects.
