The Malawi Anti-Doping Organization (MADO) says it will engage lawmakers in formulation of the Anti-Doping Act.

MADO Chairperson James Mwenda says the legal document will, among others, guarantee independence of the organization.

“Now we are operating with a mandate from the Ministry of Sports but if this act is approved by parliament, we will be an authority of our own as other statutory corporations are,” said Mwenda.

Mwenda further says  the act will mitigate  challenges of financing “because at that point the authority will be receiving direct funding from the national budget.”

He said this on Sunday in Blantyre during the consultative meeting with various sports associations in the country.

Malawi Olympics Committee Vice President, Flora Mwandira, supported the idea.

“The policy which is being made will assist our future players to make sure that they are following rules and regulations of Anti-Doping,” Mwandira said.
