Organizers of the end of the year Central Region Open Squash tournament scheduled for December says they will utilize on the presence of young players at the tournament to identify young players that will be drafted into the Malawi Squash National team.
Chairperson of the organizing committee David Ng’onamo told Zodiak on Tuesday that Malawi is missing out on nurturing young talent and their inclusion during this tournament will make a difference in the near future.
“If we are not careful we are going to miss out on young players, these are the future players so it’s better we start grooming them now to have a good national team in few year coming”, Ng’onamo said.
Meanwhile Ng’onamo bemoaned lack of funding towards the squash national team saying the development is impeding the progress of the sport in the country.
“Much as we understand that this is a minority sport but there is little support from stakeholders which is a setback, as a country let us give a chance to these minority sporting disciplines by supporting them”, he added.
