Bullets Cancels Mozambique Trip

Malawi football giants, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, will not travel to neighboring Mozambique to play an international strength testing match against UD Songo on March 23 as earlier indicated, an official of the team has confirmed.

Club chief administration officer Albert Chigoga told Zodiak Online the change was due to unavailability of players as some are engaged with the national team while others are injured.

Albert says instead the team will wait for advice from its technical panel on the way forward before the kickoff of the 2024 football season in Malawi.

Bullets are aiming to retain their last year’s success in the 2024 football.

The quadruple winners will face Silver Strikers, second placed in the local league, on 30th April in the NBS Charity Shield match which offsets the season.

Bullets have contributed 10 players to the Malawi National Team, the Flames, which is hosting a four-nation tournament in the capital Lilongwe this week.

Meanwhile, former Flames forward Esau Kanyenda has asked local football authorities to support coach Patrick Mabedi's project to bring youthful players to the national team as a long-term plan.

Mabedi has incorporated three Europe and America based players, Takondwa Maosa of Brentwood Town and Jubril Okedina of Cambridge United in England and Henri Kumwenda of Butler Men's Soccer in the US, among a host of young players in his final squad for the four-nation tournament. It starts on the 20th to 26th March 2024.

Kanyenda says FAM must intensify efforts to identify players from outside Malawi to build a strong national team.

The games will involve men's senior and under-20 teams of Malawi, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Zambia at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
