Road users around Liwonde Township in Machinga on Monday asked the district’s council to identify a new parking space for trucks that are ferrying fertilizers from the township, noting that the trucks are causing panic along the Liwonde–Ntaja road commonly known as the Bakili Muluzi Highway due to congestion.

A Land ownership wrangle of Mgodi estate area has erupted between local chiefs and district council authorities in Machinga as the chiefs allege that the authorities are illegally selling plots around the estate which was given to the communities by government.

After losing about 500 hacters of forest cover in the last two years due security understaffing, Zodiak has found that Machinga district council has now recruited only one additional security guard to make a total of 31 officers.
