Over a decade ago, Aubrey Mwale, a small holder farmer from the area of Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba had high hopes that the construction of a meat processing factory building for his Bwaila Meat Cooperative by the government would transform his community’s economic status.
Some communities in the areas of Traditional Authorities (TAs) Kadewere and Ntchema in Chiradzulu East Constituency have expressed fear of the looming hunger which has been exacerbated by the Tropical Cyclone Freddy.
About 2,840 primary school learners in Chiradzulu district dropped out of school last year alone due to, among other challenges, inadequate infrastructure as well as long distances the learners walk to access the basic education.
Some concerned youths in Chiradzulu are demanding the removal of the district's youth officer as well as sports officer accusing them of being selfish and not serving the interest of majority them.
Delivery of quality education in Chiradzulu district is said to be greatly compromised due to inadequate classroom blocks, a development which has worried education authorities in the district.
