Zodiak Women In Fundraising Drive For Mother’s Day
Zodiak Broadcasting Station female workers have ventured into a fundraising drive that will raise funds for a charitable cause to take place on Mothers’ Day this year.
Chairperson of the women Happy Mzembe told us they have organized a series of fundraising activities, feeling duty-bound to assist elderly women, especially in rural areas, where they do not usually get support on such occasions.
“We have organized this luncheon to raise funds. And we also have another function this month. We are thinking that if we can raise K3 million that will be enough because there are 30 women whom we have identified,” she said during a fundraising luncheon held at the broadcasting house, Artbridge in Area 47, Lilongwe .
Mzembe added, “We are mothers, we are women and that is why we have chosen to assist them, especially on Mothers’ Day.”
One of the people that supported the cause Esther Lazaro, an administrator at Choice Construction which donated K2 million, said that it was a way of giving back to the community, and advised that such activities should not wait for special days.
“We donated K2 million towards the cause because they approached us, and as a company we thought it’s good to help. It’s just our social corporate responsibility, so we had to fulfill that,” said Lazaro.
According to Mzembe, they have identified 30 elderly women at Mchezi in Lilongwe to assist with various items.
She called on other Malawians and women in particular to assist those in need, especially the elderly.
