According to his uncle, Savious Kasambara, the family is shocked and saddened by the death and has hired a private doctor to perform a postmortem.

Kasambara said the body of his niece would first be taken to Blantyre where he lived for viewing and later be taken to Nkhata Bay.

Kasambara died on Friday afternoon at a lodge in Lilongwe, according to the family and the police.

His close friend and longtime partner in the legal field Wapona Kita said he was deeply saddened by the death of Kasambara.

He says he looked up to Kasambara as a teacher.

Another lawyer, Khumbo Soko, also wrote on his Facebook page that the late Kasambara was a valuable lawyer, especially for his expertise in conducting thorough research, and knowledge of how to lead a case to success.

Malawi Law Society Honorary Secretary General Gabriel Chembezi said the legal fraternity had lost a significant mind.

Chembezi said Kasambara made significant contributions to the development of the legal fraternity in Malawi.

Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda said the government was shocked by the death of Kasambara.

Speaking to Zodiak, Chakaka Nyirenda described the death of Kasambara as a great loss not only to the legal fraternity but the country as a whole.

Apart from representing people in court cases, Kasambara also served as Attorney General and Minister of Justice and he also taught law at the Chancellor College, now University of Malawi.

On Saturday, the police said circumstances surrounding the death of the lawyer necessitated a postmortem.

National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya, quoting management of the lodge, said Kasambara had been in Lilongwe on a working trip.

Kalaya said upon completion, results of the investigations would be made public.
