The girl was in standard 7 at Malilima Primary School in the district.

"Our investigations have revealed that the girl was sleeping with a 16 year old and this is the boy who is responsible for the pregnancy," said Ngwira.

According to Ngwira, the girl distanced the councilor from his pregnancy.

He said the girl even wondered why the councilor was dragged into her pregnancy issue.

"Meanwhile, we have arrested the boy and charged him with defilement," said the police PRO.

Councilor Chitekwe had all along been describing the allegations as mere mudslinging from supporters of a candidate he defeated during the May 21, 2019 local government polls.
