State Prosecutor, Sub Inspector Skeva Munyapa, told the first grade magistrate court that the convict Maxwell Jiya, knowingly on 2nd April 2020, defiled the girl who is a relative to his wife and they were staying with her in their house.

According to Sub Inspector Munyapa, on that day, Jiya’s wife left the two at the house to fetch firewood but whilst there, Maxwell dragged the girl to his bedroom where he defiled her.

Jiya pleaded guilty and asked for leniency, saying he is breadwinner but state pleaded for stiff penalty citing that instead of protecting the girl he choose to do the opposite.
