Thugs Kidnap Businessman’s Son in BT

The police in Blantyre are hunting for a gang of five assailants that last night kidnapped a son of well-known businessman Shyam Patel of OG Plastics near a Hindu temple in Limbe township, but freed him a little later.

The assailants, armed with panga knives, attacked both the father and his 14-year-old son as they were coming from the temple and demanded a ransom of K6,000,000 to release the boy.

Limbe police publicist Patrick Mussa confirmed the incident and said a man hunt has been launched, without disclosing further details.

Zodiak Online has, however, established Patel paid the kidnappers K1 million through his son’s mobile wallet before the kidnappers went away with the phone and abandoned the boy at a Puma Filling Station in Makhetha township in the city.

Cases of this nature are very rare in Malawi.
