The Darts Association of Malawi has received a K5 million sponsorship from CDH Investment Bank (CDHIB) towards its national finals slated to commence this Friday, 22 December 2023.

The bank’s marketing manager, Nancy Bisika, says their continued support to darts is to make the minority sport more competitive and make Malawi known on the global scale, given its potential.

“As a Bank, we felt compelled to create value through the sponsorship. Darts is the game that has made Malawi proud on the international scene and we are glad to see that the sport is developing.”

Bisika said it is the CDHIB's hope that the sponsorship will result in further development of darts in Malawi. “We would like to see darts sport being played at all levels from primary school to college which will result into a strong national team.”

Speaking on behalf of the Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) President, the secretary general, Preston Matanda, said that DAM is grateful for the Bank’s timely support which is a great encouragement to the darts teams. The donation shows how committed the Bank is to the sport considering the support the bank has provided in recent years.

He said: “This sponsorship signals CDHIB endorsement for the sport and we assure you that we will put the funds to good use to help develop darts from grassroots, and in the youth and women.”

DAM hosted the CDH Investment Bank Cup in 2021 and has received annual sponsorship since for national tournaments. Matanda then appealed to other corporate institutions to emulate CDHIB’s gesture to support the minority sport.

DAM is a member of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5. The most recent highlight of their activities was the hosting of African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Confederation games in August 2018 in Mangochi which was attended by international teams in the SADC region.
