Learners Share Library Space with Headteacher in Chiradzulu
Learners at the Providence Industrial Mission(PIM) and Mkhande primary schools in Chiradzulu are struggling to access library services apparently because libraries at their respective schools have been turned into head teachers' office.
Chiradzulu Chief Education Officer, MacAllan Machemba, has disclosed to Zodiak Online Thursday that the education authorities in the district have been forced into the action as the two schools which are also zone centres do not have the Primary School Education Advisors (PEAs) offices who are now occupying the headmaster's offices.
“We have eight zones in Chiradzulu. Out of those eight, two namely PIM and Mkhande do not have Teachers Development Canters (TDC) apartments. This has resulted to the PEAs for the two zones to be using the head teachers offices, forcing the head teachers to occupy the libraries,“ said Machemba.
He disclosed this on Thursday during a ground breaking ceremony for the construction works of a Teachers Development Centre (TDC) at PIM primary school in the district which is also going to serve as the PEA's office.
Machemba conceded that lack of a TDC at the two zones apart from compromising the teachers continuing skills development has also affected the learners performance.
District Commissioner for Chiradzulu, FrancisMatewele said the council has priolitised construction of a TDC at the PIM primary school using funds under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) project to alleviate such challenges.Construction works for the TDC is expected to last for three months.
