The Neno district council has a new contingency plan which will among other things help to mitigate the impacts of climate disastrous hazards in the district.

This has been made possible through a partnership of Neno district council and Beyond Our Hearts Foundation (BOHF) with funding from Save the Children under Localization Project.

Speaking at the end of a four day long workshop at Crossroads Hotel in Blantyre, Neno District Commissioner Rosemary Nawasha expressed happiness that the council and Civil Society Organizations have done a good job in the production of the document which was long awaited and is inclusive in nature.

"Let me express my gratitude for the work done, it is very comprehensive and this document will guide us in mitigating impacts of climate change that often left people devastated," she said

In his remarks, The Director of Planning and Development at Neno district council, Charles Lomoni, commended the level of commitment of the team during the entire process and also applauded Save the Children for timely supporting the process of developing the contingency plan.

Executive Director for BOHF, Russell Msiska, applauded the council for its commitment in developing and implementation of the document saying it is motivating.

Msiska further said that "as an organization based in Neno, we value team work and we will do more to ensure that our council operates without difficulties".

Project Manager for Save the Children Localization Project, Charles Chirwa has since commended Neno district council members for their commitment in the development process of the contingency plan.

He further encouraged the members to make use of the developed contingency plan describing it as vital in Disaster Risk Management work.

The development of Neno District Council Contingency Plan is in line with the priorities of Save the Children's Localization drive which aims at enhancing the local governance and institutional capacities for effective and inclusive implementation of Disaster risk management and climate adaptation initiatives.
