An educationist and director of Stance Academy in Thyolo, Stanford Jonathan says lack of discipline among some teachers and structured dialogue mechanisms in many schools are the main source of students' violent protest.

This comes as for the past weeks, the country has recorded students revolts against managements, where school property have been torched and damaged.

Jonathan said this on Monday at a newly established secondary school in Luchenza in Thyolo after formulating the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), aimed at enhancing regular interface to resolve issues between two sides, such as poor diet and unreasonable fees hikes.

"Such dialogue structures are key in enhancing regular interface to resolve issues in schools and avoid students revolts. Apart from that some schools procrastinate on issues such as improving diet, you also need to know that behind those violence, there is a teacher. Some of the teachers lack discipline," he alleged.

For the past weeks, students from Robert brake in Dowa, Machinga, Ntcheu secondary schools and Mzuzu university took to the streets in protesting poor management, for instance on diet and fees hikes.

While others were peaceful, at Robert brake and Mzuni, the students allegedly torched and damaged school and public property.

The newly elected Stance Academy PTA chairperson, Olendo Chaponda said they will prioritize interface and discipline to ensure quality education and exceptional performance at the school.
