Midima Magistrate’s Court Incarcerates Thyolo Defiler
Magistrate Lameck Mkwapatira sided with the state and slapped the convict with a 10-year jail term
The Midima First Grade Magistrate court has on Wednesday sentenced Kennedy Nanjiwa, 58, to 10 years imprisonment for defiling and impregnating a minor.
State prosecutor, Sub Inspector Anne Kamwendo said Nanjiwa who is the grandfather of the 17 year-old victim, has been having sexual encounters with her between December 2022 and September 2023.
Prosecutor Kamwendo said for example, Nanjiwa slept with the minor at a river when his wife was admitted at Thyolo District Hospital.
The court also heard that, the matter was reported to Bvumbwe Police Post when the minor was observed to be six months pregnant and this led to his arrest.
In court, Nanjiwa pleaded guilty to the charge and prayed for leniency since he is the family man.
On the other hand, Sub Inspector Kamwendo submitted that the convict's actions were immoral and dangerous to the minors.
However, Magistrate Lameck Mkwapatira sided with the state and slapped the convict with a 10-year jail term to act as a lesson to other like-minded individuals.
Nanjiwa hails from Maggie village, Senior Chief Inkosi Bvumbwe in Thyolo.
